Discover The Proven Power of Leadership Success Celebrations

The Holidays are full upon us and it is celebration time! Parties, get-togethers, family outings… all designed to spread the love and good cheer.

So, why do we wait for a special date on the calendar to celebrate? Why not create this atmosphere for yourself every day?

When you make it a point to celebrate daily wins and accomplishments, along with events that you see and experience that bring you joy, you are setting yourself up for a joyful life.

Doesn’t that sound like a good thing? Isn’t that really what we are all wanting?

Leaders work hard to keep it all moving forward, but often get so focused on that forward momentum that they fail to celebrate success along the way. Does this sound like you? Could you use a little daily celebration tune-up?

The Value of Celebrating

Remembering why celebrations are important will help motivate you to building them into your life and celebrating your achievements along your journey will also allow you to:

  1. Grow that success mindset.
Thinking about success is practice for living success. In fact, they are really the same thing. Since you can’t think about two things at once, taking the time to notice what is going right automatically means you won’t be looking at what is going wrong, which will give you and your mind the practice it needs to become successful in the way that suits you best.
  2. Feel good.
Feeling good feels good: that’s why you want it! Above all, noticing the stuff you like releases feel-good chemicals in your body and so your body gets better at producing them. So, encourage it by noticing all of the small things in your world that are going well.
  3. Enjoy today.
All of your goals and plans are ways you hope to bring something into your life that will feel good to you. Why wait for Academy Award-sized goals for that? You can feel good now and later!
  4. Energize your team.
As you celebrate your own victories and encourage others to join you, everyone’s energy level goes up. It is more fun to work with happy people, isn’t it?

Growing Your Celebration Skills

Now that you are convinced that adding a little more celebration into your everyday life is just the ticket for you… how will you do it?

One of my clients automatically thought that adding celebrations meant a dinner out or going shopping: activities that felt extravagant and overwhelming to her. If this is you, don’t worry! The kinds of celebrations I am talking about are quick, impactful, and easy on any budget. Because designing your own celebration ritual will be fun and meaningful for you, and that way you will be more likely to use it.

It is celebration time!

Here are some tips:

  1. Be vocal!
Speak, sing or cheer your success. This connects your ears and brain and body’s vocal vibrations together to ground the celebration in your body, which helps success to feel familiar to you.
  2. Use your body!
Do a little dance, jump up and clap, shake yourself all over. This body movement also helps internalize the celebration: you want your body to become used to living in a happy, celebratory state. Watch those NFL quarterbacks after a touchdown and you will get some ideas!
  3. Review!
Re-visit your celebrations every night before sleep. Speak them aloud by finishing this sentence: “Today I celebrated and continue to celebrate the things that I created such as___________.” You will be surprised how many ideas of things to celebrate you will get as you continue this practice and every time you feel accomplished about your day and you are set up for a good rest!
  4. Share!
Spread the good news – Tell a friend, family member or co-worker. Make sure others in your world know about your successes and give them an opportunity to celebrate with you. Likewise, encourage them to share a celebration of their own with you as well!

What is your celebration ritual? I would love to hear about it! And if you don’t have one, I encourage you to develop your own special celebration ritual today!
